Celadon Figurine of Scribes

Celadon Figurine of Scribes

Produced in the Western Jin Dynasty (265-317), these figurines, 19.2 cm high, were excavated from a tomb dating from the second year of the Yongning reign period (302) of the Western Jin Dynasty, in Changsha City, Hunan Province. Now it is preserved in the Hunan Museum. Two scribes sit face-to-face, each wearing a scholar’s hat and a robe with a high collar. Between them there is a small table, on which there are books. One is holding a book, and the other is writing. These figurines show that great progress in molding technique had been made since the Han Dynasty.
