This undecorated but lively chair is one of a pair which are in a Ming style. the decorative relief carving(zhuanzhu) on the apron (yatiao) and spandrel joining the apron to the legs (yatou) is in a style usually found in the mid-Qing dynasty.


Jichimu, literally translated as 'chicken-wing wood', describes a wood whose deep brown and gray patterns when cut tangentially resemble the patterns of bird feathers.
