Natural Green Duan Inkstone

Signed "Zhang Tingji" in running script. The green inkstone was quarried from Xiaoxiang Gorge of the Duan River. The stone is naturally flat on six sides, slightly trapezoidal in shape. Its well is edged with the character for "well", jing, and flanked by an inscription in seal script of the characters for "eastern well" on one side and a stellar pattern on the other. The underside is inscribed in running script by Zhang Tingji with a description of the origin of the inkstone. This piece, made by Zhang for his friend Zhu Jun, preserves the natural look of the stone. It comes with a lignum vitae (rock wood) box.
