Painted Figurine of Laboring Women

Products of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), these figurine, 9.7-16 cm high, were excavated from a site at Astana, in the Xinjiang Uygur Autunomous Region, in 1972. The women are doing different jobs-(right to left) husking rice with a pestle and mortar, windowing chaff, pushing a millstone and making noodles.
