Yellow-glazed Flask with Design of Dancers

Yellow-glazed Flask with Design of Dancers

Produced in the northern Qi Dynasty (550-577), this 20 cm high flask was unearthed from General Fan Cui’s tomb in Anyang City, Henan Province. The five musicians in relief which decorate the flask have deep-set eyes and high noses, resembling the features of the ethnic minorities of the Western Regions. The one in the middle is performing a vigorous huxuan dance. It is a reminder of the close contacts between the people of Central China and the ethnic groups in the Western Regions.
