Painted Pottery Jar with Two Ears and Whirlpool Design

Majiayao Culture Period
Height: 37cm
Mouth diameter: 10cm

Small mouth, round belly with ring-like ear on both sides, flat bottom; the pottery is dark red in color. The shoulders and the upper belly of the jar are decorated with whirlpool patterns formed by black broad bands and saw tooth-edged narrow bands, with the twisting curves representing the dynamic forward-surging river water. The decorative bands of symmetrical and continuous patterns combining soft curves and easily noticeable dots are typical of the Majiayao Culture in terms of pattern formation.
