A Greenish-White Jade Purse-Shaped Snuff Bottle

AD 1760 - 1820
Length: 6cm

Delicately carved as a purse with gathered pleats at the opening above blossoming branches, the sides of the neck pierced for stringing, the stone of even, pale greenish-white tone, red stopper.

Bottles of this type, carved from agate as well as jade, copied the standard pouches or purses worn with official robe. They were probably made for the imperial court, and are an amusing reference to an official career.
