A Large Underglaze Blue and Red "Fish Pond" Jar

Qing Dynasty
Diameter: 42cm

Large jar of thick walls, resting on an entirely unglazed circular base, rising out to a full and auspicious mid-section and constriction only slightly to a broad mouth and slightly raised lip, entire surface elegantly decorated across mid-section in copper underglaze-red painting of a fish pond scene, fish of large and small, slim and plump, upside down and sideways forms all flowing through watery ripples and small aquatic plants, copper-red glaze shifting to mellow pink shades, light blue orbs defining the fish eyes, with a glossy sheen over all and bordered at top and bottom in double band of underglaze blue lines.
