Alibaba Pictures invests in Kim Soo-hyun's 'Real'

Alibaba Pictures Group Ltd will invest in a South Korean action movie 'Real', marking a strategic step forward in the global market.

Popular Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun, who shot to fame for his roles in hit television dramas 'Dream High' and 'My Love from the Star', will star in this action thriller movie, as an ambitious and ruthless businessman who is hungry for success.

Under the deal reached at the recent Busan International Film Festival, Alibaba Pictures were given sole distribution rights for the movie in China.

Meanwhile, Alibaba Group will help market the film through advertising and brand licensing on its e-commerce platforms.

Chief executive officer of Alibaba Pictures Zhang Qiang indicates that the company aims to establish a "world-class integrated entertainment platform for the movie industry", and bring the the customers with best entertainment experience.

'Real' is the company's second overseas foray following investing in the Hollywood blockbuster, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

The movie hit theaters in China last month, by pulling in 867 million yuan, or some 137 million US dollars at the box office.

'Real' is said to start shooting by the end of this year.
