Bronze Mirror with a Continuous Peak-Shaped Knob


Han Dynasty. Bronze Mirror has a continuous peak-shaped knob. Outside an inner band of linked arcs are four small bosses cast on bases adorned with continuous beads pattern, between the four small bosses are four groups of spaced big bosses, each of 6 pieces connected by a three-string band. The outer band of 16 linked arcs decorates the rim. The one hundred bosses motif is also called clouds and nebulae motif, it was used to believe that the arrangement of the bosses might representing constellations, the present viewpoint is more reasonable that the motif was evolved from stylized and entangled animals motif. This mirror is covered with black patina, and preserved in very good condition.
