Beijing film festival to evaluate 674 film projects

The 6th Beijing International Film Festival has received a record number of film projects to be considered for investment and development, the organizers announced in Beijing on Thursday.

The Beijing Film Market "Project Pitches" sector, a part of the film festival, received 674 submissions between Jan. 29 and March 10. The number of submitted projects is 219 more than last year.

As the biggest sector of the Beijing International Film Festival, the Beijing Film Market has grown to be China’s biggest film market and has nurtured hundreds of distinguished directors and numerous film projects through "Project Pitches."

"The Bodyguard," which was a submission to "Project Pitches," was developed into a film directed by and starring Sammo Hung and hit Chinese theaters on Friday. Other successful submissions that have been developed into films include "Mountain Cry" and "77 Days."

Shortlisted projects from this year’s competition will be announced in early April.
